A native of the Southwest, Laura Megariz grew up in New Mexico. Inspired by the pottery of the Southwest prehistoric Indian cultures, she studied technique with the Quesadas of Nuevo Casa Grande, then worked with archeologists and finally did extensive study in the archives of the Arizona State Museum.
All of the materials used Laura Megariz for her replica pottery consists of gathered materials, clay and paint come from Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. Megariz collects her own clay, and hand coils, scrapes and stone polishes using traditional methods. She mixes her own pigments and hand paints her designs referencing ancient motifs. Her pots are pit fired as well. Megariz strives to use as many traditional tools and techniques used by the Ancestral Pueblo Peoples (Anasazi).
