"You don't have to understand an artwork, you just have to feel it."
Art Works Gallery has closed. After extensive discussion we have decided now is the right time to close the gallery and explore other options for our endeavors. Since opening on June 24, 2016, in conjunction with the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, we have enjoyed amazing support from the arts community, visitors to the Southern Utah area, and our spectacular gallery artists. During the past 4 years we have represented over 75 artists and offered the work of dozens of amazing creatives from all over the US, Canada and Europe. We say it often, and mean it profoundly – it has been an honor to represent the work of every one of these exceptional humans!
As we transition our space, we are pleased to tell you that the creative energy we have enjoyed will continue with the presence of StateraArts in 16, Wyatt Larsen and his boundless artistry in 18, and Hanna Dawson's art studio right next door. Around the corner, (or through the corridor), Artisan's continues to carry the torch for many, many local talents; and SUMA is moving forward as a force and inspiration to the community.
Over the past few years we have had the pleasure of partnering with many exemplary organizations, made up of individuals who work tirelessly in their pursuits and enhance our community in astounding ways. If unfamiliar with what these entities do, we have linked to their websites. We encourage you to support them in any way you are able. We have witnessed firsthand the dedication and commitment to their respective missions.
Cedar City Arts Council, "Relentless Arts Advocacy." They aren't kidding! We say warriors for the arts in Cedar City.
Red Acre Farm CSA and Red Acre Center, "Your Food Matters." These two amazing women (and crew) work non-stop and without compromise to offer the very best – direct from the earth!
Sugar House Review, "Sticky, heart-racing, sweet, sweet addictive poetry." This dedicated group of poets has been publishing this exquisite poetry journal for 10 years and calls Cedar City home.
StateraArts, "UPLIFT. AMPLIFY. ADVANCE. Statera creates pathways that bring women into full and equal participation in the arts." Co-founded right here in Cedar City, which is also the home office of the Executive Director.
Etched Magazine, "We are artists in writing who embrace the opportunity to share our passion for this place we call home.” A spectacular regional magazine that highlights the best in the arts, travel, and people of Southern Utah.
Finally, we have enjoyed the support of many, many "regulars". Some from our first hours, to our final few. You've attended our openings, stopped by just for a visit and made what we do a lot of fun. Your friendship, enthusiasm and patronage have been without limit and we hope you know how much you are appreciated.
We want to thank Steve and Diane from Artisan's Gallery for cheering us on before we even opened the doors, and throughout our stay. We value your friendship, partnership and you’re always sending people around the corner!
As we move through this shift, we continue to consider our next opportunity, but will enjoy a little of the nomad life – spending more time visiting our son Cam in the Emerald City, coffee shop testing in PDX, exploring more of this gorgeous area – and for those of you who know me well, pool season in Vegas is almost here!
In the meantime, a heartfelt thank you one and all! (If you see us test driving one of those new benches around Cedar City, be sure to stop by!)
Our mission: To facilitate a culture that validates artists at all professional levels, and cultivates the idea that “good” art is defined not only by formula, but by the viewer’s emotional response.
